Toms River is lucky to be the town to host the maiden voyage of the Jersey Shore Pizza War Competition.

The event will be hosted by my long-time friend, chef Umberto Turelli, owner of Toms River restaurant, Zi Marie’s Original Pizzeria Trattoria.

The Jersey Shore Pizza War will take place from 6 to 9 pm, Monday April 8th at the Clarion Hotel & Conference Center on Route 37 in Toms River.

To create a list of competitors, chef Umberto spent the last year sampling pizza at dozens of New Jersey restaurants across the Garden State for his You Tube channel, “What’s Cookin’ Jersey Shore.”

16 pizza joints in all will compete for the crown.

The Slice House Toms River, DeCaro’s Pizzeria & Italian Eatery Brick, Lorenzo's Pizzeria and Restaurant Toms River, Joe Diano’s Tomato Pies Point Pleasant Boro, Frankie Fed’s Freehold Boro, Calabria Pizza & Italian Grill Absecon, Romeo’s 33Pizzeria Freehold, Verace’s Pizza Toms River, Capricci Pizzeria & Restaurant Howell, Manzano’s Waretown, Filippo’s Pizzeria & Grill Glassboro, Tramonto’s Pizza Ocean Township, Red Star Pizza Southampton, Romeo’s Italian American  Freehold, Brooklyn Original Pizzeria Haddon Heights, and La Tinajita Pizzeria Cubana West New York.

How Does The Scoring Process Work?

40 percent of the score will be determined by audience participation and the remaining 60 percent will be determined by a panel of 5 judges.

Who Are The Judges?

In addition to chef David Burke, Certified Pizzaiolo Enzo Ferrante, chef Geoff Johnson of Ott’s Good Earth Garden in West Creek, chef Eddie Goldberg of Slices of Hope Pizza & Restaurant in Little Silver, and local pizza reviewer and social media star Johnny C the Pizza Guy.

Furthermore, a portion of your ticket purchase will benefit chef Umberto’s nonprofit organization, Cookin' for the Cause, which hosts fundraising events for charities like Ocean of Love and The Maximilian Foundation. Admission includes Pizza tasting, live music, and a live DJ.
