These 9 places have New Jersey hot dog aficionado’s favorite chili dogs.

Chili dogs in New Jersey are a dime a dozen.  But which places standout? North Jersey is the king of hot dog joints and most of them offer chili dogs. I’ve heard people call South Jersey a hot dog wasteland, including John Fox.

John is an ambassador to the National Hot Dog and Sausage Council and Co-founder of Hot Dog Nation. In a previous article John said,” I’ve been to close to 200 Hot Dog establishments. South Jersey for the most part is a hot dog wasteland. However, arguably the best hot dog in the state is served at Maui’s in Wildwood. Their brand is Hofmann’s German hot dog; a pork, beef, and veal blend and the best hot dog in my opinion.

Sorry John, I disagree about South Jersey being a hot dog wasteland. It may not be as prominent as North Jersey, but it’s got quite a few good places to grab a good hot dog.

I used to hit up a hot dog wagon in Tuckerton that has one of the best Sabrett chili dogs around. They’re called The Country Dog. Located at 312 E Main St, Tuckerton, NJ 08087. I haven’t been down that way lately, not sure if they’re still there.

I could do a list of the best hot dogs in South Jersey another time. Right now, we’re focusing on chili dogs.
I hit up a few prominent hot dog social media sites in search of New Jersey’s favorite chili dogs, including John’s Facebook page, “Hot Dog Nation.”

I absolutely adore chili dogs of any kind. Spicy chili is probably my favorite. I also like chili dogs topped with raw onion.
I now have a long list of places to go in the state of New Jersey for some of the best chili dogs in the tri-state area.

I love being able to go to the hot dog experts for their descriptive opinions on where to get hot dogs of any kind.
Let’s take a look at 9 places these fine folks rank as some of the best chili dogs in the state of New Jersey,

  • Johnny Prince's Bayway Diner - 2019 S Wood Ave, Linden, NJ 07036

    Christopher L. Had this to say: OK! You wanna talk about the BEST Chili Dogs in Jersey? Let’s talk. Located in the industrial part of Linden, this is the most tastiest, meatiest “uniquely” flavored hot dog chili you will ever taste! His recipe is over 35 years old. Hot dogs are Sabrett and deep fried crisp. Be warned: Place is tiny. About 8 stools. Tables outside as well. From what I heard, this place was the FIRST place to be on Diners, Drive In’s and Dives years ago. You’ll know “Johnny Prince” when you see and hear him. Great guy, great food. Put this place on your destination list! Breakfast is off the hook as well with great prices. Tony Caputo from News 12 New Jersey is in one of these pictures with his cameraman when they did a review this past summer.

  • Lover Dogs - 822 Main Ave, Passaic, NJ 07055

    Michael P loves this place, and so does Denny H.  Denny went wild with his review in September 2023.

    Ok my hot dog friends. I made the trip to Passaic to meet Wayne the owner and try his air fried dog with a chili that reviews claimed was delicious. I can now say that his chili – which has 30 ingredients- was the best chili I ever had and my only disappointment was that he does not sell it to go! I could have done a gallon but he only makes small amounts and this business of his is more a hobby for him to succeed in  bringing to Passaic and  us – the best chili dogs he knows to exist – rather than really be a money maker.  NOW to the hot dog  1) yes air fried (which i was skeptical about –  but wow it tasted incredibly delicious with a snap and there is a reason for the flavor –  – the hot dog comes from PA and is a mix of the big three – beef , VEAL , and pork.  Yes veal – try to find that in today’s hot dog world.

  • Rocco's Burgers Dogs and Fries - 405 US-46, Kenvil, NJ 07847

    Lots of folks weighed in on Rocco’s including Nick B. & Jim G. They all love the house made chili dog. Pat says, “Best chili dogs in the region.”

  • Hot Dog House - 510 NJ-17, Carlstadt, NJ 07072

    Many people mentioned the “DOUBLE D”  a hot dog topped with hot chili, cheese, raw onions. You can choose a dirty water or deep fried Sabrett hot dog with spicy or mild chili. They have a nice specialty dog menu with a lot of great choices to top your dog.

  • Bear's Hot Dog Stand - 3220 Bordentown Ave, Parlin, NJ 08859

    Tim B. called my attention to this favorite local stand saying, ” The Chili is tomato-ee with a little tang with small chunks of onions and pepper The dog is a boiled Sabrett with casing. Mark S. also sang the praises of Bear’s chili dogs.  Mark drove over an hour to scarf down 3 chili dogs from this little hot dog haven.

  • Dicky's Dogs - 332 Atlantic City Blvd, Toms River, NJ 08757

    In my neck of the woods we’ve got Dicky’s Dogs, situated near a weed and edibles dispensary. I’ll bet a chili dog or 10 would taste good after sampling the weed next door.

    In all seriousness, several local folks in Ocean Count call Dicky’s their favorite place for a chili dog. Anthony calls it the best chili dog in Ocean County.

    This one threw me for a loop. I’ve been to Lenny’s to buy stuff at the butcher counter and to get subs, but never thought of buying a chili dog.

    The most love shown for chili dogs was for the dogs created at Angelo Boulevard’s place.  Dr. Rich Thunder proclaimed, “The absolute best chili dog I’ve ever had is at Angelo Boulevard. Blvd Dogs and more. Don’t believe me; go try it for yourself.”
