Discovering The Beautiful Brick Reservoir
It’s been almost a year since my husband, and I moved from Monmouth to Ocean County. Although we are only 5 miles from where we lived most of our adult lives, there are a few hidden gems we have stumbled upon in this new neighborhood.
We have found our new favorite bagel spot, a local breakfast joint, and are making our way through pizza places. While we still love to walk along the Spring Lake and Sea Girt boardwalks and bike along the Manasquan bike path, one of the discoveries we made is…
The Brick Reservoir
Located on Herbertsville Road, this sanctuary is a great place to walk, reflect, and immerse yourself in the beauty of the present moment. It’s amazing how it literally sits along the parkway on one side and yet it’s so serene and majestic.
You hear sparrows chirping as Canadian geese bob along the lacquered surface of the water. As you walk along the perimeter, the rhythmic lapping of water against the rocks puts you in a meditative state that washes the troubles away. It’s a fantastic place to get in your daily steps! One complete trip around the reservoir is 1.6 miles. Dogs on leashes are welcome. You can go fishing there too!
In the warmer months, water stations and emergency call boxes are available. Benches with plaques and etched stones placed in remembrance of loved ones who have passed away line the perimeter of the reservoir, ensuring those who no longer walk among us are not forgotten.
Gazebos and picnic areas are available for anyone looking for a picturesque setting for your lunch break. Lights come on at dusk and there is a pair of clean restrooms in the spacious parking lot.
Constructed in the span of over two years, it took one month of continuous pumping to fill a reservoir that now holds nearly one billion gallons of water. In addition, the Brick Township Reservoir is a testament to the power of human ingenuity and innovation as it sources municipal water for many surrounding towns in and around the Metedeconk River.
In the journey of life, change is inevitable. Change ushers in opportunities for growth and exploration. Embracing the unknown can lead us to unexpected treasures, like the hidden gem that is the Brick Reservoir. So, as I continue to navigate Ocean County, I do so with a sense of wonder and anticipation, eager to uncover the next adventure that awaits.
