WATCH: Yankees Announcer John Sterling Hit By A Foul Ball In Booth
John Sterling, the radio voice of the New York Yankees for over 30 years, thought that his job in a booth was pretty safe and secure.
On Saturday June 10th the Yankees played the Red Sox and during the final at-bat in the 3-1 Yankees win, a foul ball hit by Red Sox third baseman Justin Turner came right into the announce booth – striking Sterling in the face near his eye. The 84-year-old insisted the blow, which hit him in the eyebrow, didn’t hurt.

“I wasn’t going on the IL,’’ Sterling said with a laugh. “I told Aaron Judge that and he laughed.” The Yankees also released a video on social media before Sunday’s series finale with the Red Sox of Sterling letting everyone know the was OK despite the close call with the foul ball and thanking everyone for the well wishes.
“To all the Yankee fans I am fine,” Sterling said in the video. “It hit me in the head. A lot of muscle up there, so I was OK. And I thank you for all the warm, wonderful, loving thoughts. Anyway, I’m fine. … It produced phone calls and texts from all the people who love me.
“So it really turned out to be a very good thing.”
