Will Ted Lasso Go Beyond Season 3? Coach Beard Hints It Might!
Even before season three of Ted Lasso began several weeks ago on Apple TV+, fans were already mourning its end as all reports indicated it would be the final season for everyone’s favorite Premier League coach. In interview after interview, co-creators Jason Sudeikis (Ted) and Brendan Hunt (Coach Beard) have indicated that the third season would be the last as they felt that would be the end of the journey for Coach Lasso, three seasons being just enough to tell the story they wanted to tell.
Ah, but not so fast! Tuesday morning Brendan Hunt appeared on Morning Footy, the 2-hour morning show on CBS Sports’ new soccer-only network called Golazo, and in the course of the conversation he came right out and said it may not be three and out for the show after all. Hosts Susannah Collins, Nico Cantor, Charlie Davies, and Alexis Guerrero extensive chat with Hunt touched on all sorts of topics from soccer in the U.S. to Arsenal and the Premier League, to the show itself.
Charlie Davies got the ball rolling when he said to Hunt, “if this wasn’t the last season of Ted Lasso, where do you think we’d be going? What’s the next storyline in your mind?” To which Coach Beard replied, “I don’t know that it’s the last season of Ted Lasso, Charlie” prompting excited gasps from the panel.
Susannah Collins then unlocked what should be the obvious door by suggesting that Coach Lasso’s journey could continue in Major League Soccer, which just inked a ten year partnership with Apple TV, not coincidentally the home to Ted Lasso as well.
Susannah suggested Ted push out LAFC head coach Steve Cherundolo, which Hunt took some exception too as an LAFC supporter. But it did seem to get his wheels turning!
I’m calling it right now – Ted Lasso to coach New York Red Bulls!
New episodes of Ted Lasso are available Wednesdays on Apple TV+.
