For The Locals

January 29, 2023 - The Empire State Building lit in green & white to celebrate the Philadelphia Eagles NFC Championship.

I couldn’t believe it when I saw a tweet from the official Empire State Building account. I had to wipe my eyes because I was stunned at the blasphemy I was looking at. But there it was, clear as day.

As a fan of the New York Giants, (you know, the team that got beat by the Eagles just a week prior in the NFC Divisional round) I couldn’t be more disgusted. Shocked! Appalled! Stunned as this treachery! If the Giants would have won the NFC last night, I’m pretty sure the Liberty Bell wouldn’t be glowing in blue! Yet here we are, seeing one of the most iconic NEW YORK CITY buildings lit up in green & white…and it’s not for the Jets.

After the AFC Championship game which saw the Kansas City Chiefs beat the Cincinnati Bengals, the Empire State Building tweeted again but this time as it was lit up in red and yellow.

Unless I’m mistaken, I don’t recall the Empire State Building lighting up in “enemy” colors at any point when it wasn’t a New York team and I’m still amazed that they’d do such a thing, especially when it involves a bitter rival of one of the city’s own.

The Empire State Building DID post their lights schedule saying that they would be celebrating the winners of the AFC and NFC, but there should have been a stipulation if the effing PHILADELPHIA EAGLES won that they’d just go ahead and skip it. Needless to say, I was not alone in my thinking:
