NFL Wild Card Weekend: Giants vs. Vikings By The Numbers
Even before yesterday’s season finale in the NFL, it was known that the New York Giants would be the #6 seed in the playoffs…which in and of itself is astonishing given the expectations at the start of the year. The results of yesterday’s games would determine where the Giants were going for the Wild Card round and with San Francisco winning over Arizona, Big Blue punched their ticket to Minneapolis where they’ll face the Minnesota Vikings for the 4th time in the playoffs.
During “Super Wild Card Weekend”, the Giants/Vikings game will be on Sunday, 1/15 at 4:30pm. Here’s some facts leading up to the the Giants improbable playoff appearance:
-The Giants are 2-1 lifetime against the Vikings in the playoffs winning in the 1993 Wild Card Round and the infamous 41-point shutout in the 2000 NFC Championship Game in their most recent post-season meeting.
-The Giants lost to the Vikings 27-24 just two weeks ago when Greg Joseph hit a 61-yard field goal as time expired.
-The Giants are 10-17 (including the playoffs) lifetime against the Vikings since 1964.
-With a commanding victory over the Indianapolis Colts in a win-and-in situation during week 17, the Giants clinched a playoff berth in the first season under coach Brian Daboll and general manager Joe Schoen. It will be their first trip to the postseason since 2016, when they finished 11-5 and secured the fifth seed as a wild card.
-For the bettors, the Vikings are a 3-point favorite with a 47.5 over/under.
