David Byrne Looks Back on Talking Heads Songs
David Byrne is an artist. He’s driven by the desire to learn, absorb, react, and create. His years in Talking Heads produced an incredible body of work that bore little similarity to anything their peers were putting out at the time.
Byrne has gone on to an incredible post-Talking Heads career. Collaborations both musical and artistic, albums, tours, Broadway shows, Oscar performances; David Byrne is ever changing and ever challenging. He recently sat down with Cooper Anderson on 60 Minutes. The entire interview is excellent, and the show uploaded some bonus content where Byrne discusses some of the Talking Heads songs that propelled their career. We learn among other things that “Psycho Killer” was initially inspired by Alice Cooper, and the title “Burning Down the House” came from seeing Parliament Funkadelic live.
The rest of the interview is of course a terrific look into the mind of David Byrne.
