SNL Sketch of the Week: Waffle House
Lately on Saturday Night Live it seems that the recorded sketches that are interspersed with the live ones have hit a whole new level, and a perfect example of that is this weeks’ easy stand out sketch called Waffle House.
This sketch was simply fantastic. Set up to be a parody of every angsty high school television show, host Jenna Ortega and featured player Marcello Hernandez have a dramatic meeting in front of Waffle House to discuss their relationship. As the music swells and the characters emote, all hell breaks loose in the restaurant behind them.
This sketch is just so densely packed, it’s every Florida Man/Waffle House headline you’ve ever read crammed into three minutes. I’ve watched this at least five times and have laughed out loud at another component each time. The ending is so perfect, but my favorite most subtle joke is the second time we see Punkie Johnson’s wheelchair. Enjoy!
