British High Schoolers Try Biscuits And Gravy For The First Time
A guilty pleasure genre of mine on YouTube is “react” videos, where people will taste or see or hear something they never have before while the camera captures their reactions. Some of my favorites are “Irish People Try…” “Tribal People Try…” and the classic “Kids React” series.
I just stumbled across this video called “British High Schoolers Try Biscuits and Gravy for the First Time,” and it is a delight to watch. The kids are game to try anything and seeing their reactions versus expectations is always fun. The interviewers also have a great rapport with the kids, which makes the whole thing that much better.
Biscuits and gravy is such a culturally American thing, whereas even the name sounds off-putting to Brits as a biscuit to them is the same as a cookie to us. Ever have gravy on an Oreo? I wouldn’t recommend it. But despite the name, these kids were willing to give it a shot, and for the most part they were on board. Of course things got taken to a whole new level when they sampled the complete platter of biscuits, sausage gravy, crispy chicken tenders, and iced tea. As one kid at the end said of this American dish, “Your food is weird and nice.”
This video is on the JOLLY YouTube channel, and they have a ton of other react videos like Brits Try Waffle House For The First Time, British High Schoolers Try Thanksgiving Dinner For The First Time, and British Guys Try Girl Scout Cookies For The First Time.
