Liverpool Scores A Touchdown, Humiliates Manchester United 7-0
Oh my goodness Liverpool, what have you done? L.F.C. DESTROYED Manchester United 7-0 to hand the Red Devils their joint worst defeat in club history. Cody Gakpo, Darwin Nunez, and the Egyptian King, Mo Salah, each had a brace, with Bobby Firmino capping things off with the 7th goal on the day just hours after announcing this campaign will be his last for Liverpool.
The most bitter rivalry in English football was on full display yesterday as Liverpool systematically dismantled a Manchester United side that had just last weekend claimed hardware in the EFL Cup Final. There would be no heroics and no goals this weekend however, as Erik Ten Haag’s men had no answer for a blistering Liverpool attack, and a defense that seemed impenetrable with Virgil Van Dyke and Ibrahim Konate back to health and back to dominance.
Cody Gakpo found the back of the net for Liverpool in the 43rd minute, giving the Reds a 1-0 lead an momentum heading in to the half. That momentum was evident just two minutes after the second half kickoff when Darwin Nunez headed in his first of two. Gakpo followed up with his second just three minutes later, and the rout was on.
Manchester United had no answers, and seemingly no will to find any as the relentless onslaught continued. Bruno Fernandes spent the majority of the match complaining, diving, and generally just giving up. It was a truly astounding non-performance from Fernandes, who actually begged to be taken off in the 80th minute. Tragic, really.
