Boy Has 526 Teeth Removed From His Mouth
A 7-year-old boy from Chennai, India recently had 526 teeth surgically removed from his mouth.
The Times of India reports that 7-year old Ravindranath was taken to the dentist for symptoms of a decayed tooth, and a dentist found 526 teeth in his right lower jaw. The surgery to remove all the teeth lasted five hours.
The doctor explains, “The teeth were in different sizes that varied between 0.1 mm to 15 mm. They looked like pearls in an oyster. Even the smallest piece has a crown, root, and an enamel coating like a tooth.”
The official term for this condition is compound composite odontoma.
The boy had swelling in his teeth since the age of three, but his parents explained that they could not get him to sit and properly get checked.
Times of India adds, “Though doctors were not able to conclude what had caused the abnormal growth, they said it could be because of radiation from mobile towers and genetic causes.”
Ravindranath now has a healthy amount of 21 teeth. A photo of the teeth can be viewed in the tweet below.
