Affordable Eats At This Monmouth County Restaurant
These days, affordable eats, especially in Monmouth County are like finding a unicorn in the forest.
Lately, my husband and I have been going out to eat less often than we did in the last couple of years.
If we’re going to spend money on dining out, we are more likely to go to locally-owned businesses.
Just the other day I came across a headline on the website, Only In Your State, that read, Dine For Less Than $10 A Person At This Retro Latin Eatery In New Jersey.
I knew immediately that the article was referring to The Latin Diner on Memorial Drive between 2nd and 3rd Avenue in Asbury Park.
The place used to be called The Cuban Café, and it was awesome. The Latin Diner is even more awesome!
I haven’t been to The Latin Diner since they opened last year. My friend Thomas was the first of my foodie friends to check the place out.

Cubans, empanadas, croquettes, short rib, papa rellenas, and tostones!! So glad to have this back!! Definitely go check them out and support new & local businesses!!
Then another foodie, Mirta A, stopped by after she saw Tom’s review and wrote: “My grandson and I took a ride there today, and it was so nice, and the people so nice, and the food so good, and the price was such a great surprise, only $46 for a lot of food ! ( I spent more at 7/11 yesterday for a lot less! And not as good) I’m going back tomorrow for their bacalao (cod fish ) Friday special, which if you haven’t had Cuban bacalao, do yourself a favor, you must go and get yourselves some 😋 Mirta approved.”
You can feast on the lunch specials for less than $10! Grab a seat at one of the diner’s red stools, or outdoor tables, or take your breakfast, lunch, or dinner to go.

They have a great breakfast menu and none of the items will break the bank. If you’re in a hurry, grab a few of their homemade empanadas for around $2.00. The chicharron is another favorite, as are the croquettes.
Come hungry because the portions are plentiful.
One of the few dishes that cost more than $10 is the Crispy Fried Red Snapper. For under $22, it’s still a bargain. Where are you getting a whole fish for that price these days?
For under $12.00, you can get a huge plate of tender roasted pork accompanied by seasoned rice, garnished with broccoli, carrots, and cauliflower. I couldn’t even finish it, it was so much food.
To finish the meal, get the Tres Leches Cake.
Family-owned and the service is excellent. I hope you make it over there soon.
