N.J. Bakery Closes Its Doors After 43 Years in Business
After 43 years of serving the Hoboken community, this iconic New Jersey bakery has closed its doors. Dom’s Bakery Grand was located at 506 Grand St. and officially stopped operations on Jan. 28 per NJ Advance Media.
“As many of you know, we have made the decision to close this chapter of our lives. We are beyond thankfully to the entire Hoboken community for your lasting support and loyalty during our past 43 years of business,” owners Dom and Flo Castelitto shared in a Facebook post.
The reason behind the closing is that its owners will be retiring. Dom’s Bakery originally opened in 1979 at 5th St. The bakery then moved to the Grand St. location in 1988.
The bakery was popular for its bread and offered several options for its customers. They had baguettes, fresh focaccia bread with homemade sauce, pepperoni + sausage stuffed breads, and the classic Italian pastry, sfogliatella. They also made another Italian classic called Easter bread.
Iconic singer Frank Sinatra frequented the bakery when he was alive according to Hoboken Girl. “We would ship it out from Newark Airport to California where he and other famous actors like Lucille Ball and Dean Martin ate,” Dom proudly told the outlet.
Dom came to Hoboken when he was 12 from Naples, Italy. He was raised in Hoboken but has since moved to Secaucus.
