Gina Carano, who played Rebel Alliance soldier Cara Dune on the Disney+ series Star Wars: The Mandalorian has been fired by Lucasfilm.

“Gina Carano is not currently employed by Lucasfilm and there are no plans for her to be in the future,” a Lucasfilm spokesperson said in a statement. “Nevertheless, her social media posts denigrating people based on their cultural and religious identities are abhorrent and unacceptable.”

Gina Carano recently shared a post on social media that many interpreted as being a comparison between the treatment of conservatives today to the treatment of Jewish people during the Holocaust. “Jews were beaten in the streets, not by Nazi soldiers but by their neighbors…even by children. Because history is edited, most people today don’t realize that to get to the point where Nazi soldiers could easily round up thousands of Jews, the government first made their own neighbors hate them simply for being Jews. How is that any different from hating someone for their political views,” she wrote.

Although she deleted the post, screenshots were widely shared on social media.

Carano has a history of incendiary social media posts: in November, one of her tweets mocked mask-wearing during the coronavirus pandemic. In another November tweet, she falsely suggested voter fraud occurred during the 2020 presidential election.

The Hollywood Reporter reports that Lucasfilm had planned to announce Carano as the star of her own Disney+ series in December, “but scrapped those plans following her November tweets.” Multiple Mandalorian spinoffs are in the works including Rangers of the New Republic, which the Hollywood Reporter speculates could have potentially starred Carano.

At press time, Carano has not commented, but #CancelDisneyPlus started trending on Twitter after the news broke.
