Woodstock 50 to have “Signature Cannabis Strain”
Let’s be honest: This is just as big of news as the pending lineup announcement.
Michael Lang, co-organizer of the original Woodstock, recently spoke with Billboard about Woodstock 50. One very interesting detail about the 50th anniversary festival definitely stood out.
Lang revealed that he’s working with Southern California dispensary operator MedMed in developing a “signature cannabis strain” for Woodstock 50. Complete details on the strain aren’t known at this time, but you better believe that weed will have a great name!
Lang didn’t reveal any new details about a lineup, but he did say that Woodstock 50 will feature artists that are “heavily involved in social issues.”
“It always kind of bugged me that things like Live Aid, which took a tremendous amount of effort and a huge production, just end after the concert is over,” said Lang. “So we’re trying to make it something that penetrates and engages people into getting involved. We’re in a situation where we could lose the planet if we’re not careful.”
A number of non-government organizations, including HeadCount, Global Citizen and Conservation International, will be onsite to encourage festival goers in various activism efforts.
Lang said Woodstock 50 will feature three main stages. Organizers are also “going to try and create these neighborhoods with highly-curated, smaller stages and curated foods, curated entertainment, comedy, spoken word and acoustic performances.”
