ZZ Top Cancels Rest Of 2017, Rescheduled Dates TBD
A “tummy ailment” suffered by bassist Dusty Hill is the reason ZZ Top has “temporarily suspended” its current tonnage tour.
While Hill “is following a directive to lay low for the next few weeks,” according to the announcement, the Texas trio has iced 16 dates, starting with tonight’s (October 18) planned stop at the South Carolina State Fair in Columbia. The group is putting a hopeful spin on the development, however, announcing that, “The band rocks 2018 and to then blow it out in 2019 as they celebrate a big ’50’…! Once-in-a-millennium.”
No further details have been revealed about Hill’s stomach condition.
It’s not the first time the bassist’s health has impacted the group’s touring schedule; ZZ Top postponed shows during 2014, when Hill fell on a tour bus and injured his hop, and again in 2016 when he fractured his shoulder.
After the latter Hill told us that he hates for shows to be canceled on his account:
“I don’t like to be dependent on people. I hate to be damaged; I guess everybody does. It was a real drag. I really hated to have to cancel shows. We’re not big on canceling. We’ve played in hurricanes and all sorts of things…We go ahead and do the show if at all possible, but if it can’t be done it can’t be done. It’s not a good feeling. As much as the pain and suffering of the injury, the anguish of not being able to play was at least that bad.”
