Win In Court For Paul McCartney
Paul McCartney and the song publishing firm Sony/ATV have reached peace in their ongoing battle over rights to the Beatles’ song catalog.
McCartney sued in January to reclaim his ownership to the copyrights, and Sony/ATV has acquiesced, returning McCartney’s share of the songs — owned at one point by Michael Jackson — to him as of October 5, 2018.
McCartney’s attorney Michael Jacobs informed U.S. District Judge Edgardo Ramos on Thursday (June 29) that,
“The parties have resolved this matter by entering into a confidential settlement agreement and jointly request that the Court enter the enclosed proposal order dismissing the (lawsuit) without prejudice.”
Neither side is talking specifics about the deal, and it’s unclear how this will affect the estate of John Lennon’s claim to Beatles copyrights — though it certainly makes a precedent for it to strike a similar deal.
