Hugh Jackman, Kate Hudson, Film “Song Sung Blue” at Historic Montclair Bar
Last week, film crews set up shop at Tierney’s Tavern in Montclair, New Jersey, where stars Hugh Jackman and Kate Hudson are shooting “Song Sung Blue.” The movie tells the story of musicians Mike and Claire Sardina, based on a gritty 2008 documentary.
Filming kicked off in Monmouth County last fall. Along with Jackman and Hudson, the cast features Michael Imperioli, Jim Belushi, and rising singer King Princess in supporting roles. Craig Brewer, known for directing “Hustle & Flow,” is running the show.
Tierney’s has been a fixture in Montclair since 1934. The bar has stuck around through Prohibition and 90 years of changes, with its old wooden bar still drawing crowds.
The story follows a married couple who put everything into Lightning & Thunder, their tribute band performing Neil Diamond and Patsy Cline songs. But their journey to success hits plenty of bumps along the way.
The leads bring some serious star power. Jackman wowed audiences in “Logan” and lit up the screen in “The Greatest Showman.” Hudson, who just dropped her debut album “Glorious” in 2024, earned an Oscar nod for “Almost Famous.”
For Imperioli, it’s a big return to New Jersey — his first major project here since his legendary run on “The Sopranos.” Belushi rounds out the cast, bringing 40 years of screen experience to the table.
The movie will keep filming in New Jersey until March 2025. Before wrapping up in Chicago, they’ll shoot scenes throughout Newark and Atlantic City.
