Hatteras COVID-19 Response
Background
• Hatteras is a commercial printing company based in Tinton Falls, NJ.
• We’re continuing to operate as an ‘essential business’ based on the printing services we provide to our pharmaceutical companies and other essential businesses.
• In mid-March, when COVID-19 started to spread in our area creating an urgent need for PPE and other safety materials, we decided to pivot some of our manufacturing and staff to produce Face Shields, Temporary Beds and Safety Partitions.
• In our first week of production we produced and donated over 7,000 Face Shields and have been incredibly humbled by the response. We’ve also supplied 300 Supine Beds and Partitions to the state of CT for a temporary hospital for treating COVID-19 victims.
• As of April 2nd, we ramped-up production to increase our capacity and speed-to-market.
Our Challenge
• We’ve been actively trying to connect with state purchasing agencies and hospital administration for them to place bulk orders that would help many more healthcare professionals more quickly, though we have made little impact.
• Meanwhile we continue to receive multiple emails per day from desperate healthcare workers from hospitals in NJ and NY about shortages in PPE supplies.
• On April 6th we started a GoFundMe Page so we can continue making donations directly to people on the front lines while helping to cover our production and staff costs. Hatteras will also do a one-to-one match of every Face Shield that is donated.
