Rod Stewart: Wife Details Cancer Battle
Rod Stewart stunned many fans recently when he revealed he had gone into remission after secretly battling prostate cancer for nearly three years, and his wife, Penny Lancaster, detailed the singer’s cancer battle.
Lancaster recalled Stewart’s battle on U.K. TV show Loose Women, on which she is a co-host. She said (as transcribed by The Daily Mail), “It came on really quickly. With Rod it was an aggressive one. It left the gland and traveled to the outside tissues. So that was another scary moment where we had to have more invasive tests and scans to see if it was anywhere else secondary in his body, which was the most frightening test of all. But it hadn’t gone. It’s emotional. We kept it quiet for two and a half years now. The positive news is we caught it early enough.”
Lancaster also mentioned that she and Stewart kept his illness from their two young children – Alastair, 13, and Aiden, 8 – but told Stewart’s six older children from previous relationships.
“Aidan was only five or six [when Rod was first diagnosed] so [he] wasn’t old enough to understand,” said Lancaster. “It would be too much for them [the younger ones] to understand. When daddy finally told everybody the good news, and to get the message out there for guys out there over 50 go and get the test, then we told the little ones.”
