Eddie Money Dead at 70
Eddie Money, who only recently went public with his stage 4 esophageal cancer diagnosis, has passed away at the age of 70.
Money’s family released the following statement to Variety:
“The Money Family regrets to announce that Eddie passed away peacefully early this morning. It is with heavy hearts that we say goodbye to our loving husband and father. We cannot imagine our world without him. We are grateful that he will live on forever through his music.”
This summer, Money underwent minor heart valve surgery and postponed his remaining 2019 tour dates, however, his heart surgery was unrelated to his cancer diagnosis. He contracted pneumonia shortly after heart valve surgery.
His cancer reveal was chronicled on his AXS TV reality show Real Money on an episode that aired on September 12. Money’s cancer diagnosis came after what Eddie thought was going to be a routine check-up at the doctor. His wife, Laurie, added on the show that Eddie had a tumor at the top of his stomach, and the cancer has also spread to his liver.
In his over four decades-long career, Money released 11 studio albums. Three LPs – 1979’s Life for the Taking, 1982’s No Control and 1986’s Can’t Hold Back – have been certified Platinum. His self-titled 1977 debut album has been certified Double Platinum.
Many Eddie Money singles have gone on to become radio staples including “Baby Hold On,” “Two Tickets to Paradise,” “Think I’m in Love,” “Shakin'” and “Take Me Home Tonight,” which was his most successful single peaking on the Billboard Hot 100 at number four in November 1986.
