David Bowie Biopic: See Johnny Flynn as a Young Bowie
Stardust, the new David Bowie biopic, has begun production, and producer Paul Van Carter has shared the first image of actor Johnny Flynn as a young Bowie.
Carter shared the photo below along with the caption, “Exclusive first look at Johnny Flynn as the young David Bowie in our forthcoming movie Stardust, directed by Gabriel Range, with Marc Maron and Jena Malone.”
First announced back in February, Stardust is based around Bowie first coming to the U.S. in 1971 and inventing the Ziggy Stardust persona. The film, however, has reportedly not been granted any rights to use Bowie’s music in the film, according to a tweet from Bowie’s son, Duncan Jones.
Jones is actually not too keen on any Bowie biopic being made. In December 2018, he took to Twitter and posted the sardonic tweet, “They insist I take a meeting on a biopic about my dad. Who do I say must play him?” Jones then lists Idris Elba, Peter Dinklage, Meryl Streep and Gilbert Gottfried as potential casting choices in a Twitter poll. (Streep won, FYI.) In the extended comments of the original tweet, Jones wrote, “I’m gunning for Idris. He can do ANYTHING!”
