Keith Richards Gives Most Keith Richards Answer on Why He Cut Back on Drinking
The Rolling Stones are hitting the road in the United States in 2019, and while a Stones tour is always big news, the latest revelation from Keith Richards might temporarily overshadow the tour itself.
In a new interview with Rolling Stone, Richards said he’s significantly cut back on his drinking, save for an occasional beer or glass of wine.
“It’s been about a year now. I pulled the plug on it. I got fed up with it,” said Richards. “It was time to quit. Just like all the other stuff…But I don’t notice any difference really – except for I don’t drink. I wasn’t feeling [right]. I’ve done it. I didn’t want that anymore.”
Leave it to Keith Richards to be so nonchalant and so freakin’ cool about being, in essence, “over” alcohol.
The new change is apparently doing wonders, with Ronnie Wood saying, “He’s a pleasure to work with. Much more mellow. He’s open to more ideas, whereas before I’d kind of grit my teeth and go, ‘He’s gonna give me some sh*t for saying this.’ Now, he’ll say, ‘That’s cool, man.’” Wood continued, “…I think the Keith that we used to know and love had this cutoff point where if he had one more, he’d go over the top and he’d be nasty. The cutoff point became shorter and shorter, you know, and he realized that.”
As much as I am happy about Richards realizing he should cut back on booze, I would give anything to go back in time to hear some of the salty one-liners he had for Wood. They were probably brutally hilarious.
