Details on Deep Purple’s New ‘Fire In The Sky’ Compilation
Deep Purple has announced a November 3 release date for Fire In The Sky, a new compilation that will come out as a single CD as well as a three-CD and three-LP set.
The package draws from the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame group’s 19 studio albums released between 1968-2013, with the three-CD volume digging deeper and including at least one song from every album. (The three-LP set features 27 songs.) Curiously absent, however is anything from the group’s latest, Infinite, which came out earlier this year.
A limited edition of that album, however, is also coming out November 3 that includes a bonus live recording from the group’s performance at Hellfest this year.
Deep Purple starts a European leg of its The Long Goodbye Tour on November 6 in Sweden, and bassist Roger Glover tells us that the group is certainly winding down if not entirely quitting:
“No one wants to stop but we know that…we’re all about late 60s, early 70s, and bodies have a way of not keeping up with your brain, or your career…The time is approaching when it will end, but we don’t want to face that. We don’t actually want to make a date or a final tour or anything. We just want to carry on as long as nature allows or is kind of dignified. If we can’t do what we do anymore then, yes, it’s time to stop. But we’re still doing it and we’re still enjoying it very much. So all we’re saying is the doors is closing but it’s not closed yet.”
