Lindsey Buckingham Talks New Album With Christine McVie
New out today (June 9) is Lindsey Buckingham/Christine McVie, a duo album by the longtime Fleetwood Mac members.
The set comes as something of a surprise; Buckingham and McVie, then recently returned to Fleetwood Mac after a long absence, initially went into the Village Recorder studio in Los Angeles during the summer of 2014 to work on songs Buckingham had started recording with Mick Fleetwood and John McVie and on some new material Christine McVie brought with her.
At the time it was thought to be for the next Fleetwood Mac album, but Buckingham tells us it morphed into another idea entirely:
“Y’know, I have to say…we were in the studio and we didn’t go in saying we were making a duet album. We didn’t go in saying it was any particular thing…I think about a week or so in it was so clear to both of us that there was this, something that had a life of its own…There was something about her distance from the band and coming back…a sense of reaffirmation about her creativity.”
The album features 10 tracks, including three co-written by the duo. Buckingham and McVie will tour to support the album starting June 21 in Atlanta, while Fleetwood Mac is playing two concerts, Classic West on July 16 in Los Angeles and July 30 in New York, this summer.
