It’s hard to believe The Dark Side’s 50th Anniversary is this year. Pink Floyd’s Dark Side of the Moon is as big as it gets. The album has sold more 34 million copies. It’s listed in the Guinness Book of World Records for being in the charts longer than any other album: 591 consecutive weeks. The music and lyrics took just 7 weeks. The band was preparing for their next tour and they were desperate to release new material before the tour began.
The writing process behind it was genius. Roger Waters gave question cards to anyone who would answer including doormen, roadies, and Linda and Paul McCartney. The questions included “Are you afraid of dying?” “What does the phrase ‘Dark Side of the Moon’ mean to you?” and “When is the last time you were violent and in the right?”
