How To Volunteer With our “Share The Joy” Organizations
It’s that time of year again here at WJRZ where, with your help, we fill a Pepsi truck with donations to help those in need in Ocean County. We work with three amazing charity organizations who benefit from all of your generous donations, and they get them to those in the community that need them most. And while we appreciate every single last one of you who are able to donate, we know there are some of you out there who are interested in other ways to get involved. Luckily for you, the three organizations we work with are always looking for volunteers!
Volunteer with Jersey Shore Animal Shelter
One organization you can volunteer with is Jersey Shore Animal Shelter. We have been partnering with JSAC for many years, and they are wonderful. They need help with all kinds of things, such as dog walking, cat socializing, and fundraising. A few requirements the shelter has is that you must be at least 16 years old to volunteer, be able to commit to at least one day a week, and be able to volunteer on a scheduled basis. For more information and the link to apply, click here.
Jersey Shore Animal Center is also of course always looking for fosters and adopters for their pups and kitties. There is currently an animal crisis, with most rescues and shelters having no more room for intake. Opening your home to foster gives an animal a warm & loving temporary home, while also making space to give the shelter the ability to rescue another animal. Volunteer with Fulfill NJ
Fulfill, formerly known as the Foodbank of Monmouth & Ocean Counties, is working to help end hunger in the community, build food security, and help make sure all people have access to enough nutritious food to maintain an active & healthy lifestyle. Fulfill has a few basic guidelines for their volunteers. You must be at least 13 years old to volunteer. Volunteers will need to watch a short training video before they can start. You’re more than welcome to volunteer as a group of five or more, but you would need to fill out a different application.
At the time of writing this, 11/2/23, Fulfill isn’t looking for new volunteers. But please do check back often, as they’ve stated that this is the month that they will begin accepting new applications. For more information, click here.
Volunteer with Big Brothers/Big Sisters of Coastal NJ
The final organization we partner with for Share The Joy is Big Brothers/Big Sisters. They currently have hundreds of youths on their waiting list to be matched with a “Big” mentor. Mentoring a child only takes 4-6 hours a month for a minimum of a year, and the staff is there to support mentors every step of the way. There are community-based mentors as well as School-Based, Workplace, Youth Empowerment programs, and more! If you are 19 years or older and would like to spend time with a child who would benefit from your positive influence and friendship, please look into becoming a Big! You don’t need any special skills to be a mentor… if you’d like to learn more about being a Big Brother or a Big Sister, click here.
