There are times that I don’t feel like cooking. It doesn’t happen often but when it does, I need to summon the Gods of strength to get me off my duff to cook a meal. Hey, I worked all day, I’m tired! Ninety nine percent of the time I can’t wait to create a beautiful meal for the people I love.

It usually takes me a week or so to plan a holiday feast. My process starts with giving lots of thought to the side dishes and desserts that will make the meal spectacular. If I’m doing all or some of the cooking, my passion kicks in while comin up with a list of items that accompany the turkey. If a large crowd is expected, I will almost always make way too much, and that includes adding another main dish like a pot roast to the table. I belong to a culture that loves to feed people, it’s our way of showing love.

Last year, the plan was to have my sister cook the turkey and I’ll do the sides, desserts, and probably my grandmother’s pot roast. If I were to cater a holiday meal I wouldn’t have any idea who to call. Do I call a local restaurant? Do I call the local grocery store? Do I search for local caterers?

I have never in my life had any dinner or event catered. I always cooked something, even if I was invited to someone else’s home. I have never shown up empty handed, I just don’t have it in me.

I understand that it is so much easier to make a phone call and order your holiday meal. All you have to do is pour the wine, set the table, and wait for your food to arrive.
