The world lost a musical icon with the passing of Tina Turner this week at the age of 83. The sheer volume of condolences and remembrances pouring in speaks to the lasting impact Tina had on so many musicians. While she was an electrifying performer in her own right, she often shined when performing with others.

Here are six of my favorite Tina Turner collaborations.

  • It's Only Love

In 1984 Bryan Adams had about 326 hits off the album Reckless, and the highlight for me was this duet with Tina.

  • Hot Legs

Is there a better track for Rod Stewart and Tina Turner to perform together? They also performed this on Saturday Night Live.

  • Tearing Us Apart

An absolutely SMOKING track off Eric Clapton’s 1986 album August. This performance is from the 1986 Prince’s Trust charity concert.

  • Tonight

David Bowie was a massive Tina fan. They were label mates at one point, and when David heard Tina was going to be dropped by the label he blew off his own album release party saying he was going to see his favorite singer perform instead. That of course was Tina Turner, and because of that gesture by Bowie the label decided to re-sign her.

  • The Acid Queen

Tina had acting chops too! This performance from The Who’s Tommy.

  • The Bitch is Back

Tina and Elton – ’nuff said.
