Valjean befriends Fantine played by sophomore Sophia Nelson (Spring Lake), an ailing, peasant mother who he promises to adopt and take care of her daughter Cosette played by junior, Emma Ballinger (South Plainfield) after she is gone. Only years later, after Valjean proves his mettle during a bloody student uprising led by Enjolras played by sophomore Sami Ravi (Howell) and saves the life of Marius played by junior, Daniel Arce (East Brunswick) a young man hopelessly in love with Cosette does the ex-convict finally feel fully redeemed. Freshman, Cooper Stahl (Howell) plays Thenardier, who is Les Misérables’ villain with a wicked sense of humor along with his partner in crime wife Madame Thenardier played by freshman, Kayla Brown (Freehold). Eponine played by 8th grader, Gianna Minardi (Waretown) is the street-smart eldest daughter of Thenardier and Madame Thenardier.
