This week, Around Ocean County with Lisa Anderson has Major Steve Ditmer from the Salvation Army. Major Ditmer relocated to Toms River from Connecticut with his wife last year to head the Toms River branch of the Salvation Army. The Salvation Army is an organization that began in 1865. Since its inception, they have which met human need without discrimination, assisting approximately 25 million Americans annually. They serve in 130 countries around the world, with over 1.5 million members consisting of officers, soldiers, and adherants. Operations of the Salvation Army are supervised by trained, commissioned Officers. They proclaim the gospel and serve as administrators, teachers, social workers and counselors, youth leaders and musicians.
