This week, with March being colorectal cancer awareness month, we hear from Dr. Mallik Patel. He’s talking about the importance of getting screened for colorectal cancer. Colorectal cancer is the third most commonly diagnosed cancer and the second leading cause of cancer death in men and women combinedin the country. Colon cancer and rectal cancer are often grouped together because they have many features in common. The most important thing to remember about colorectal cancer is that it’s really important to detect it early. When caught early, 90 percent of patients are still living five years after diagnosis. Some preventative measures can be taken to reduce the risk of colorectal cancer such as maintaining a healthy diet, drink alcohol in moderation, stop smoking, Exercise most days of the week, and maintain a healthy weight.
