The certification proves the hospital maintains top-tier professionals, imaging technology, specialized interventions, and round-the-clock multidisciplinary stroke care. Joint Commission representatives conduct on-site reviews and assessments annually. They decide which facilities merit the Gold distinction.
"Maintaining Comprehensive Stroke Center certification year after year reflects our unwavering commitment to clinical excellence and innovation," said Tudor G. Jovin, MD, Chief and Chairman of Neurology and medical director, according to a news release.
Cooper first received its designation in 2017. It has retained this status by meeting standards that surpass Primary Stroke Center certification. This demands specialized training, case management capabilities, and superior patient outcomes.
The Joint Commission defines and advances standards for health systems. These standards push facilities toward the safest, most consistent, and most sustainable care possible. The organization evaluates facilities on their capacity to provide specialized treatment for stroke patients.
Stroke ranks among the leading causes of death and long-term disability in the United States. Nearly 800,000 people suffer one annually, according to the American Heart Association.
The recertification places the Camden medical center within a select group of facilities equipped to manage the most severe stroke cases. Such centers must demonstrate they possess the staff, equipment, and protocols needed to provide immediate intervention when patients arrive.
