From the family-friendly magic of The Little Mermaid to the biting humor of Urinetown and the no-holds-barred stand-up of Aaron Berg, this lineup highlights the range of live entertainment drawing audiences out across the state before the weekend even hits full stride.

Disney's The Little Mermaid brings an ageless story to life on stage with world-class singing, romance, and adventure at every turn. The tale begins with Ariel, an inquisitive young mermaid who has always been fascinated by the human world and would do anything for love! When Ariel makes a deal to trade her voice for legs from the sea witch Ursula, she discovers that what she gave up may be too high a price.

Urinetown

  • What: A clever, satirical musical comedy

  • Where: Wilkins Theatre, 1000 Morris Ave., Union
  • Cost: $11 to $16

Kean Stage presents Urinetown, a sharp and satirical musical full of wit and irreverence. In a city plagued by drought and outlawing private toilets, where public restrooms are chargeable by an evil corporation, the story highlights a reluctant hero who starts a revolution against this oppressive regime. Music by Mark Hollmann, lyrics and book by Greg Kotis, staged and directed by Joshua Feliciano, this story features a wonderful blend of humor and commentary on capitalism, bureaucracy, and societal problems, all within an excellent, thought-provoking production.
