Cape May County earned recognition as one of America's fastest-growing travel spots in a feature by Travel Trade Today. The international tourism publication listed the area among just five U.S. counties flagged as emerging tourism hotspots.
This honor arrives as more than 12 million visitors poured $8.1 billion into the local economy in 2024. Tourism also generated $23 million in occupancy taxes and $668.5 million in state and local taxes.
"Cape May County is uniquely positioned in today's tourism landscape," said Commissioner Director Leonard Desiderio, per Cape May County.gov. "Our coastal beauty, deep history, and warm hospitality create a year-round vacation experience unlike anywhere else."
Travel Trade Today placed the county alongside well-known spots like the Florida Keys, the Catskills, and the Great Smoky Mountains. These regions excel at transforming natural assets into visitor experiences.
Tourism spending fuels growth. Local businesses expand what they offer, jobs appear, and new investments enhance what visitors experience. Events have multiplied and varied across the region.
The commitment to preserving open space and farmland safeguards the area's charm and maritime character. Officials believe this protects what makes the destination appealing for future travelers.
"Visitors are increasingly seeking authentic, meaningful travel experiences, and Cape May County delivers on every level," the area said in a news release Tuesday. "From world-famous beaches and charming Victorian streets to tranquil woodlands, environmental adventures, rural escapes, arts festivals, and four-season events, the county offers a blend of natural beauty and beach-vibe energy that today's travelers crave."
The national attention comes as the calendar turns toward 2026. Officials plan to keep attracting new travelers by setting a fresh standard for tourism growth, innovation, and coastal living.
