Ugly Dumpling will open three restaurants across New Jersey. This doubles how many shops the chain runs in the state. The fast-casual dumpling company shared news of the growth on its website, with spots planned for Burlington, Union, and Morris counties.
The Delran spot at 4000 Route 130 will mark the first South Jersey site. This restaurant will take over where Crab Du Jour used to be. Springfield will get one at 140 Route 22 West, while Morris Plains will see another at 1711 Route 10 and Route 202 in Briarcliff Commons.
Opening dates haven't been shared yet.
The chain opened its first New Jersey restaurant in Edison back in 2023. Two other spots operate in Linden at 661 W. Edgar Road and Holmdel at 2130 NJ-35, Suite 6. The Edison restaurant sits at 561 US-1.
The concept focuses on Shanghai-inspired soup dumplings known as xiao long bao. Six variations of these soup dumplings appear on the menu, along with Shanghai stir-fried noodles and wok dishes. Dim sum, wontons, and bubble tea round out what customers can order.
"Ugly Dumpling's menu caters to a modern palette and is designed to be affordable and accessible to the masses, as Dim Sum, dumplings, wontons, and wok cooking was intended," a statement read, according to Patch. "The star of the show is our handcrafted XLB, the most flavorful soup dumplings made fresh daily in our Bao Lab."
Craft cocktails and noodle bowls also appear on the menu. Vegan and vegetarian options exist for customers who want plant-based meals.
The chain operates 11 spots across the East Coast. Nine more are listed as coming soon on the company website, which includes the three New Jersey sites.
The closest existing spots to the new Delran site are in Edison and Newark, Delaware. Each sits about 45 miles away from the Burlington County town.
