Local officials will look over plans next March 20 at 7:00 p.m. The property covers 10 acres, nestled between the main Route 70 entrance and railroad tracks, an area originally meant for off-track betting.
The developers need to clear two main obstacles: getting the okay for arcade games, which current B4 zoning doesn't allow, and dealing with rules about required affordable housing units.
The project will keep the historic Garden State Park horse track gatehouse standing. This small plot, separated from the main site, serves as a reminder of the location's racing history from 1946 to 2001.
If approved, this would be Supercharged Entertainment's second location. Their first spot in Edison, which opened last year, boasts the world's largest indoor Go-Kart track.
Though not as big as the Edison location, the Cherry Hill site plans to pack plenty of excitement with a multi-level electric racing track and gaming center. Many details are still under wraps.
Its location near major highways would draw visitors from throughout the area, bringing new energy to the existing shopping district.
The zoning board needs to approve several exemptions, including arcade permits and housing requirement bypasses before construction can start.
Similar to Edison's mix of racing and VR gaming, the new spot might offer comparable attractions, though official plans don't spell out exact features.
Since 2001, this land has shifted from racing to retail. Now it's ready for another transformation, while the gatehouse remains as a reminder of its storied past.
