Spielberg To Direct New Film in Cape May, Paying Extras $216 a Day
Acclaimed director Steven Spielberg has chosen Cape May, New Jersey as the location for his next Universal Pictures movie. Filming takes place March 10-14, 2025, with extras earning $216 for each eight-hour day. The powerhouse combo of Spielberg’s Amblin Entertainment joins forces with Universal Pictures. “Jurassic Park” writer David Koepp penned the script for this star-studded film featuring Josh O’Connor, Colman Domingo, Colin Firth, Emily Blunt, and Eve Hewson.
Cape May’s movie scene is on the rise. The beach town just finished filming the Bob Dylan story “A Complete Unknown” in 2024, set to release December, 2025. It’s all about the numbers, New Jersey’s film tax credits offer up to 30% back on qualified spending. This incentive has transformed Cape May County into a prime spot for filmmaking.

Local businesses should see a nice boost. Hotel owner Curtis Bashaw told capemaynjdaily.com, “We’re really excited to have a major film shoot coming in 2025. It’s great for the hospitality industry in the offseason.” His six hotels are getting ready for the crowd.
Mayor Zach Mullock suggests filming will happen throughout Cape May County, though exact locations aren’t set yet. Film crews are coordinating with local officials to minimize disruption. Between the beach and Victorian architecture, this seaside town keeps drawing filmmakers.
Earlier productions brought extra revenue to local shops during off-season months. This project looks to do the same, with film crews filling local eateries and stores.
