Here Is What We Know About Pumpkin Spice Latte Season 2023

It’s now August, which means the beginning of fall menus at many different restaurants. No fall menu is more talked about online than Starbucks (and Dunkin’ by proxy). Why? It started in 2003 with the introduction of the all-mighty Pumpkin Spice Latte and has snowballed from there. So, with PSLs being right around the corner, what do we know so far? 

Starbucks hasn’t officially released what’s going to be on its fall menu yet or even when its coming out. There have been several leaks though. So, while all that I’m about to tell you is still speculation, it’s more than likely pretty accurate.

According to food blogger @markie_devo on Instagram, who claims that he got this information from a Starbucks employee, there will be several new menu items as well as returning favorites.  

New menu items may include things like an iced pumpkin cream chai latte, an iced apple crisp oat milk shaken espresso, and a baked apple croissant. Returning favorites may include things like the pumpkin spice latte (duh), the pumpkin cream cold brew, the apple crisp oat milk macchiato, and the pumpkin cream cheese muffin.

There are currently a couple possible dates that the fall menu could be launching. In the post, @markie_devo says that the menu is going to be coming August 24th, allegedly to compete with Dunkin’s fall menu (potentially dropping August 16th, more on that further down). Me personally though, I think it’d be more likely to come out August 29th.  

Last year, Starbucks dropped its fall menu on Tuesday, August 30th. And as the publication Her Campus has pointed out, 8 of the last 10 years’ fall menus have dropped on a Tuesday. August 24th is a Thursday, August 29th is a Tuesday. I’d be really happy if they dropped the menu on the 24th, more time for me to drink pumpkin spice, but I’m not getting my hopes up.   

As @markie_devo also posted on his account earlier last month, the fall menu for Dunkin’ looks extremely similar to the fall menu last year, with no new items. They’re bringing back the pumpkin spice signature latte, the nutty pumpkin coffee, and pumpkin donuts/munchkins and pumpkin muffins. Considering there’s nothing new, I’d say the speculation around the menu itself is accurate. Dunkin’ still hasn’t technically announced their fall menu yet.

The biggest mystery currently is the release date. Since Dunkin’ has started making a specialized fall menu to compete with Starbucks, they’ve always released theirs first. Last year, Dunkin’s fall menu was released on August 17th. This year, it’s reported it will be released on August 16th. If it comes out the 16th, it wouldn’t be shocking.  

So, what do you think? Either way, we’ll have to wait for Starbucks and Dunkin’s official statements to know when and what is actually coming. All I know is I can’t wait for this year’s first sip of an iced pumpkin spiced latte. It’s going to be amazing.
