Sequel Series To The Full Monty Is Coming To Hulu
The 1997 British comedy The Full Monty was a delightful film about six unemployed men in Sheffield, England who decide to put together a male striptease show to raise money so one of their friend Gaz can visit his son. Gaz drums up interest by declaring that their show will be better than Chippendales because they will go “the full monty” – meaning stripping down to nothing.
The movie was a critical fave and a commercial success too, earning over $250 million from a budget of $3.5 million. The movie was at one point the highest-grossing film in the U.K. until Titanic came along. The Full Monty also received multiple BAFTA and Academy Award nominations including Best Picture. After being adapted into both a musical and a play, the cast is reuniting for a sequel series coming to FX this summer.
Mark Addy, Robert Carlyle, Tom Wilkinson and the rest of the original cast are back, and the trailer looks like this should be fun. From the press release:
“Taking place 25 years after the original British smash hit, the 8×60’ series will follow the same band of brothers as they navigate the post-industrial city of Sheffield, and society’s crumbling healthcare, education, and employment sectors. The comedy-drama will uncover what happened to the gang after they put their kit back on, exploring their brighter, sillier and more desperate moments. It will also highlight how the fiercely funny world of these working-class heroes – still residing in Sheffield – has changed in the intervening decades.”
The Full Monty series will run eight episodes and all will be available for streaming on Hulu in the U.S. and Disney+ in the U.K.
