Madonna, Others Pay Tribute To Late Music Exec Seymour Stein
Legendary music executive Seymour Stein passed away earlier this week at the age of 80. He was married to music, he had an ear for talent and hits that was unrivaled, and he is the man responsible for signing some of the most successful, unique, and influential acts the music biz has ever known including Madonna, Talking Heads, The Ramones, Depeche Mode, The Smiths, The Pretenders, Echo & the Bunnymen, k.d. lang, Soft Cell, and Everything But The Girl to name just a handful.
Stein founded Sire Records and artists wanted to be on his label because of his deep musical passion and knowledge. Arguably his biggest signing ever, Madonna, happened in 1982 when he was in a hospital bed recovering from heart surgery. She was among the many artists paying tribute to Stein this week.

Seymour Stein was one of the good ones. He could spot something great and/or potentially great in the first few bars in many cases, and sometimes he’d wait for the chorus before he decided if it was any good or not. He had taste (a word not usually associated with a record

RIP Seymour Stein. Legendary record man. Signed me to Sire Records in 1984 and bought me my Red 355 from 48th Street to seal the deal. Worked with The Drifters, Rolling Stones & Shangri-Las. Discovered Talking Heads, Ramones & Madonna. Well done Seymour & thank you my friend. pic.twitter.com/p2BGzlpcqU

Swift rebirth my friend. 🙏🏼
RIP Seymour Stein. Classic old school record company guy. He tried to sign me in the early 80’s but we didn’t like the deal. Still, he was a Man who didn’t hold grudges and occasionally advised us throughout the years. I always liked him. Now spinning vinyl in musical heaven❤️ pic.twitter.com/COC1CkwQdL
