Disney Officially Out of Ideas, Remaking Movies Less Than Ten Years Old
The Walt Disney Company has been on a run of turning beloved animated films into live action remakes, which I don’t recall anyone asking for. I mean, why create original content when you can just rehash the intellectual property you already own and destroy some favorite films in the process?
In just the last ten years there have been live-action remakes of Sleeping Beauty (Maleficent), Cinderella, The Jungle Book, Beauty and the Beast, Dumbo, Aladdin, The Lion King, 101 Dalmations, Mulan, and Pinocchio.
On the release schedule for this year are Peter Pan and Wendy and The Little Mermaid, with production also underway on Snow White, The Hunchback of Notre Dame, Robin Hood, Bambi, Lilo & Stich, The Aristocats, and multiple sequels.
The latest Disney film to get the live-action treatment is one that came out only seven years ago as Dwayne Johnson announced that he would be reprising his role as the god Maui in a a “re-imagining” of Moana.
Humbled to say we’re bringing #MOANA’s beautiful story to the live action big screen!#MAUI changed my life (miss you grandpa) and I’m honored to partner with @DisneyStudios to tell our story thru the realm of music & dance, which at the core is who we are as Polynesian people🪝 pic.twitter.com/CxJFKQewUS

There’s no release date or information on who else will be joining Johnson in the cast or if Auliʻi Cravalho who did the voice of Moana will be involved. Can’t wait for the remake of this remake a year after the remake is remade!
