Top Five All Time Baseball Hall Of Fame Snubs
The Major League Baseball Writers Association yesterday announced that third basemen Scott Rolen will be the lone inductee into this year’s Hall of Fame class. Rolen got his start with the Philadelphia Phillies in 1996 before moving on to the St. Louis Cardinals in 2002. Stints in Toronto and Cincinnati rounded out his career.
Rolen got in with 76.3% of the ballots, just five votes above the threshold for entry into the Hall. Todd Helton, Billy Wagner, Gary Sheffield, and Andruw Jones appeared on on over 50% of the ballots, with Helton seemingly the most likely to make it in with next year’s vote.
Every year there are snubs and surprises, and here now is the definitive list of the Top 5 Baseball Hall of Fame snubs.
5. Kent Tekulve, Pittsburgh Pirates
The lanky Pirates reliever was a sight to behold with his flat-topped Pirates lid, transition lenses, and submarine style delivery. He goes in on style points.
4. Oscar Gamble, New York Yankees.
The afro. Enough said.
3. Pete LaCock, Kansas City Royals
Pete LaCock’s father was Hollywood Squares host Peter Marshall and his name is LaCock. I’m 12. Fun fact, the only grand slam Pete LaCock hit in his career was off Bob Gibson.
2. Gorman Thomas, Milwaukee Brewers
That mullet! That mustache! That bat!
- Buddy Biancalana, Kansas City Royals
The greatest shortstop in history, Buddy Biancalana is still waiting on the call from the Hall. Buddy had an astounding 113 hits across six spectacular seasons, leaving him just 4,143 hits shy of Pete Rose’s record of 4,256.
