During the pandemic everyone on the planet decided to take up baking, including yours truly. While I love to cook, baking was not my forte, so of course I turned to YouTube to get some ideas and there I came across the Bon Appetit channel and the amazing Claire Saffitz.

Claire joined BA in 2013 eventually becoming a senior food editor. Her niche on the BA channel was Gourmet Makes, where each episode would see Claire try to recreate and elevate a popular “junk food” ranging from Twix to Doritos to Pop Tarts to tater tots. I enjoyed most of the Bon Appetit chefs, but Claire was a treat. She left BA in mid-2020 and started her own YouTube channel highlighting recipes from her cookbook, Dessert Person.

Claire has a new cookbook out (What’s For Dessert: Simple Recipes for Dessert People), and she recently did an Ask Me Anything (AMA) segment on her channel, providing some great tips and insight.

My mom has always made the best lemon bars, but I’m going to make Claire’s and see how they compare.
