There was nothing like a Friday or Saturday evening spent staring at the wall of VHS tapes trying to decide what would your Blockbuster picks for the weekend. At its peak in 2004, Blockbuster Video Store had over 9,000 locations. The advent of Netflix’s DVD mail service, at home streaming, and the great recession led to that number eventually dwindling to one, with the lone remaining Blockbuster in Bend, Oregon.
The new comedy series, Blockbuster, is a workplace comedy set in the last Blockbuster store, and ironically it’s on Netflix. Starring Randall Park (Fresh Off the Boat, Marvel Cinematic Universe), Melissa Fumero (Brooklyn 99), and J.B. Smoove (Curb Your Enthusiasm), this show looks like it could be a lot of fun.
