Release Of Sea Turtles In Point Pleasant Beach Brings Joy To Residents
It was a very special morning on Tuesday, September 20 near Water Street in Point Pleasant Beach as residents gathered along the shoreline to watch as two sea turtles were released back into the ocean.
Sea Turtle Recovery which is located in West Orange, New Jersey invited the community out to release Sagari, a 120 lb juvenile Loggerhead, and Sally J, a 2-year-old Green Sea Turtle.
Sagari was sadly cold-stunned in Virginia back in November of 2021 and was treated for pneumonia prior to Sea Turtle Recovery treating him for digestive issues. Sally J on the other hand ended up in the back bays and eventually upriver due to upwelling events along New Jersey’s shore this summer.
Sea Turtles cannot sustain life in freshwater and luckily, the team at Sea Turtle Recovery treated both Sagari and Sally J; they have both recovered now and are living freely in the Atlantic Ocean.
The non-profit organization runs on donations. If you’re interested in learning more or adopting a current patient at Sea Turtle Recovery, click here.
