It’s Always Sunny In Wrexham!
Last year actors Ryan Reynolds (Deadpool, Green Lantern, Two Guys, a Girl, and a Pizza Place) and Rob McElhenney (It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia) decided they wanted to invest in a football (soccer) team. For months they pored over information about dozens of clubs and eventually decided that Wrexham A.F.C. in Wales was the one for them. In Wrexham, football is not life or death. It’s more important than that.
With no real connection to the community of about 65,000 in central Wales, the two Hollywood stars came to town and immediately fell in love with the club, the grounds, and the people of Wrexham. Fortunately for us, they also brought a film crew to document the entire process. Investing time, money, and expertise into the club and community, Reynolds and McElhenney aim to eventually bring Wrexham through from the lower divisions of Welsh soccer to the English Premier League.
The trailer for “Welcome To Wrexham” dropped yesterday, and it looks like it’s going to be a treat to follow the journey of two American actors in the world of British football. The series premieres August 24 on FX.
