Matt Knight’s “4:20 HIT of the Day” – 7/11/22
Every weekday, I’m going to drop a song that I like to call the 4:20 HIT of the Day. What does this mean? Simply, it’s a song that I think will give you some good vibes, ‘spark up’ nostalgia or just remind you about a tune that you might love but just haven’t heard in a while.
Today’s HIT comes from the Dutch band Golden Earring with “Radar Love.” A bit of a complex tune lyrically, “Radar Love” was written from the point of view of a truck driver who says he has a psychic connection with his girlfriend (radar love.) He gets the feeling that she desperately wants to be with him, causing the truck driver to drive recklessly, causing a fatal accident. In the afterlife, the lyrics turn to a narrator’s point of view but claims that he still has “radar love” with his girlfriend.
Ironically, “Radar Love” has been chosen by many magazines and websites as a top 10 driving song. It peaked on the Billboard Hot 100 chart at #13 in 1974.
