Matt Knight’s “4:20 HIT of the Day” – 7/1/22
Every weekday at around 4:20pm, I’m going to drop a song that I think you should listen to and make the remainder of your workday a bit more mellow with the 4:20 HIT of the Day. What does this mean? Simply, it’s a song that I think will give you some good vibes, ‘spark up’ nostalgia or just remind you about a tune that you might love but just haven’t heard in a while.

Today’s HIT is a classic soul track from The O’Jays, “Back Stabbers.” I don’t know what it is about this song but it’s one of my favorite R&B songs of all time. It could be a combination of the story being told (The narrator in warns men about their male “friends” who smile to their faces, but are secretly planning to steal their wives or girlfriends), the instrumental section of the band and the funky groove and the catchy hook.
“Back Stabbers” reached #3 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart in 1972 and was the #35 song of the year.
